The government says it wants to simplify what is on offer to teenagers The government is set to scrap some qualifications in England for 14 to 19 year-olds, it has been announced.
But ministers will not confirm until August which qualifications in schools and colleges will have their public funding withdrawn.
The current system is too complex, says the Joint Advisory Committee for Qualifications Approval (JACQUA).
Schools Minister Iain Wright said young people needed to understand the qualifications on offer.
Previously the Department for Children, Schools and Families has said that of some 6,500 or so qualifications 65% are taken by fewer than 100 students a year.
