New Rush Hall School in Redbridge is a school for up to 72 young people aged between six and 16 with behavioural, emotional and social difficulties. This article highlights how the school worked with B-Skill to tackle professional development.
Business Manager Pauline Puddicombe was already well aware of the vital role caretaking staff had to play in ensuring a clean, comfortable and safe learning environment for the school's pupils before she approached B-Skill to discuss professional development.
Pauline comments: "The ethos of the school is to make pupils feel valued. Continuous professional development is something that we encourage among all our staff, to help maintain the school?s high standards. I was very aware that, although our two caretakers had decades of experience in their role, they hadn?t received any formal training."
Following training with B-Skill's Eric Oguama-Richards she now believes the caretaking team have a more professional approach to their work and are more able to plan their own schedules. "This means that I'm a lot less involved than I was previously, leaving me free to
get on with other school business."
