B-Skill leads by example with the Skills Pledge. The purpose of the Skills Pledge is to ensure that all staff are skilled, competent and able to make a full contribution to the success of the company.
As a training organisation, Newcastle-based B-Skill Ltd understands the importance of investing in the development of the skills and knowledge of its staff. B-Skill is one of more than 60 businesses and organisations in the North East region that have signed up to the Skills Pledge, a major campaign to boost the skills of the nation's workforce.
The Skills Pledge is being spearheaded in the region by the Learning and Skills Council (LSC) North East, with support from the North East Chamber of Commerce (NECC) and the Confederation of British Industry (CBI).
B-Skill operations director, Paul Champion, said; "As an employer ourselves, we are committed to supporting our own staff development and success, which inevitably will ensure that our learners, employers and our business are successful.
"We are also now encouraging our team to impress upon all of the employers that we work with the importance and the benefits of the Skills Pledge. As employers, we need to stop being shy about how good we are and how much we care about what we do. Signing the skills pledge sends out a clear message that we are committed to ensuring we have the skills being developed to be world class."
The Skills Pledge is open to all employers of all sizes in the private, public and voluntary sectors, and the CBI and NECC are encouraging more employers to follow suit.
James Ramsbotham, Chief Executive, NECC, said; "One of the most pressing issues facing businesses today is skills, so we are delighted that businesses in the North East are embracing the importance of the Skills Pledge.
"However, we need as many businesses as possible to commit to this important initiative if we are to truly change the skills levels of this region's workforce."
Employers that make a commitment to the Skills Pledge have access to a Skills Broker, part of the jointly funded LSC North East and One NorthEast Train to Gain service. Developed as part of a wider effort by the Regional Skills Partnership in the North East to increase the productivity and further regenerate the region, Train to Gain will ensure that skills brokerage is available to all employers in the North East.
The service offers impartial advice and matches training needs to local learning providers, to ensure that flexible, responsive training programmes are delivered to meet employers' needs. A core element of Train to Gain is the access to appropriate funding of Skills for Life, first Level 2 NVQs, Level 3 NVQs and Management and Leadership training.
